About this trip
This eight-day trip works through El Salvador at a steady pace, mixing capital-city culture with coastline and countryside. You start in San Salvador, taking in its volcano backdrop, galleries and markets, before digging into the country's history at the National Anthropology Museum.
From there you head out to Suchitoto's colonial streets and the Ruta de las Flores, a route of small villages good for wandering and trying local food. You'll also stand at the Joya de Ceren ruins, a UNESCO site preserved by volcanic ash, sometimes called the Pompeii of the Americas.
The trip ends on the Pacific coast at El Zonte and El Tunco, where black-sand beaches and a laid-back surf scene give you time to slow down after the earlier sightseeing.
