About this trip
Twelve days through Bhutan's western valleys, moving between Paro, Thimphu, Punakha and the high Phobjikha Valley at an easy, unhurried pace. This is a private, partially guided trip, so you'll have flexibility built into the days rather than a fixed group schedule.
The route crosses mountain passes where the landscape changes fast, from pine forest to rhododendron and magnolia slopes to dwarf bamboo, with plenty of birdlife along the way. Phobjikha Valley is the quiet centrepiece, known as the winter home of the Black-Necked Crane.
Alongside the scenery, you'll spend time in Bhutan's cultural centres, taking in fortresses, monasteries, markets, farmhouses and museums that give a real sense of daily and religious life in the country.
