About this trip
Five days on the road from Sofia to Dubrovnik, cutting straight through the heart of the Balkans. You move through Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro before finishing in Croatia, taking in capital cities, old towns and a fair bit of coastline along the way.
It's a fully guided small-group trip, so the pace is handled for you — mostly city walks, some scenery, and a good amount of driving between stops. Other travellers may join or leave the group at points along the route, which keeps things a bit fluid.
Expect a mix of well-known sights and lesser-visited spots, with the emphasis on covering ground and getting a feel for each place rather than digging deep into any single one.
What you'll do
- Explore Sofia's historic landmarks
- Walk Skopje's old town and take in its heritage sites
- Visit Matka Canyon for a break from the cities
- See Prizren and Tirana
- Wander Kotor's UNESCO-listed Old Town
- Finish in Dubrovnik
- You cross five countries in five days, so expect real variation in comfort standards, road conditions and English-speaking staff along the route
- Some guests may join or depart partway through, so the group makeup can shift
- This is a fast-moving itinerary with a new base most nights rather than time to settle in anywhere
