The Inca Trail Experience 8D7N

Start & end in Cusco 8 days Up to 12

About this trip

Eight days built around one of South America's classic treks, starting in Cusco and taking you through the Sacred Valley before the Inca Trail itself leads you to Machu Picchu.

You camp along the trail with a personal porter carrying the heavy gear, so the days are about walking, not logistics. The route ends with a guided tour of Machu Picchu and, before you finish, a trip out to the Rainbow Mountain.

This is a small-group trip, so expect a fairly close-knit set of fellow trekkers and guides who know the route well.

What you'll do

  • Hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with a personal porter carrying your gear
  • Guided tour of the Sacred Valley
  • Full guided tour of Machu Picchu
  • Visit the Rainbow Mountain
  • Sightseeing around Cusco's historic centre
  • Camp overnight along the trail
Good to know
  • Multi-day trekking with camping, so you'll want to be reasonably fit and comfortable sleeping outdoors
  • Small group format throughout
  • Inca Trail permits are limited and tied to specific dates, so departure choice matters
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're fit, enjoy group trekking, and want excellent guides with standout food. Think twice if you need flexibility—it's challenging and demands good physical conditioning.

  • Guides consistently excel at history, encouragement, and personal attention; chefs cater brilliantly to dietary needs.
  • Food quality remarkable throughout—meals made from scratch in mountains, even birthday cakes; vegan/gluten-free accommodation seamless.
  • Requires genuine physical fitness; multiple reviews stress you must be in good shape for seven days hiking.
  • Group dynamics matter—small teams with porters and horsemen; quality of experience tied heavily to your guide assignment.
