About this trip
This week in Peru pairs classic sightseeing with a proper trek. You get a couple of days settling into Cusco and the Sacred Valley before heading out onto the Classic Inca Trail itself, camping along the way as you climb toward Machu Picchu.
The trail follows the original Inca route through the mountains, past ruins and cloud forest, ending with your first sight of Machu Picchu on foot rather than off a bus. You return by train, which gives your legs a rest after four days of walking.
It suits travellers who want the full Inca Trail experience rather than just a day trip to the ruins — city culture, valley history, and a multi-day hike all in one trip.
