About this trip
An 11-day introduction to Nepal that moves from the temples and squares of the Kathmandu Valley down to the jungle plains, on to the birthplace of the Buddha, and up to the lakes and mountain views of Pokhara.
You start in Kathmandu, taking in its sister cities Patan and Bhaktapur, then head south to Chitwan National Park for a change of pace among wildlife and rivers. From there it's on to Lumbini, then west to Pokhara for lake views and a sunrise over the Annapurna range.
It's a well-rounded first look at the country — culture, history, wildlife and mountains — rather than a deep dive into any one of them.
What you'll do
- Explore Kathmandu's heritage squares in Patan and Bhaktapur
- Jungle safari, bird watching and canoeing on the Rapti River in Chitwan National Park
- Visit Maya Devi Temple, the Ashoka Pillar and Lumbini Museum at the Buddha's birthplace
- Wind down by Phewa Lake in Pokhara
- Catch sunrise over the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Fishtail mountain ranges from Sarangkot
- A broad overview trip covering culture, wildlife and mountain scenery rather than one focus area
- Involves several changes of base — Kathmandu, Chitwan, Lumbini, Pokhara — so expect regular travel days
Worth it if you're a first-time visitor seeking culture, history and landscapes with reliable guides. Think twice if you need pristine hotel rooms or want to avoid long, winding drives between towns.
- Guides like Devi, Hari and Suraj consistently deliver deep cultural knowledge and genuine warmth; drivers navigate chaotic traffic skillfully.
- Solo female travellers report feeling genuinely safe and supported; staff check in regularly and adapt itineraries on request.
- Some hotel rooms fall below acceptable standard; company refuses refunds for unused accommodation if you book alternatives.
- Long drives between towns on poor, winding roads consume significant time; domestic flights exist as alternatives but aren't proactively offered.
