About this trip
A full-day trip out of Darwin into Kakadu National Park, one of the largest protected areas in Australia and a UNESCO World Heritage site for both its natural and cultural significance. You travel through floodplains and wetlands with a guide who fills in the history and ecology as you go.
The day centres on Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr, some of it thousands of years old, alongside chances to spot saltwater crocodiles and take in the park's wetland birdlife.
It's a guided day trip rather than an expedition, so the pace is steady and the group moves together between a handful of well-chosen stops.
What you'll do
- View ancient Aboriginal rock paintings at Ubirr
- Spot saltwater crocodiles from the viewing platform at Cahills Crossing, conditions permitting
- Learn about the park at Bowali Visitor Centre, with local arts and artefacts on show
- Walk the wetlands boardwalk at Fogg Dam Conservation Centre
- Optional Adelaide River Crocodile Cruise for a closer look at the apex predators
- Itinerary can change between November and April depending on rainfall and road conditions, with the guide substituting like-for-like stops
- Crocodile Cruise is an optional extra, not included in the core day
- Croc-spotting at Cahills Crossing depends on conditions on the day
