Uluru Kata-Tjuta Kings Canyon (Camping) - From Alice Springs

Start & end in Alice Springs 3 days Up to 21

About this trip

Three days out from Alice Springs into Australia's Red Centre, camping under the stars and taking in Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon in one small-group loop.

You get both a sunrise and a sunset at Uluru, time at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre to understand its meaning to the Anangu people, and walks through Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon that show off the scale of this landscape.

Nights are spent at a private campsite on Traditional Owners' land, with the tour ending in either Alice Springs or Uluru depending on shuttle availability.

What you'll do

  • Watch Uluru change colour at both sunrise and sunset
  • Learn about Anangu culture and history at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Aboriginal Cultural Centre
  • Walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole, Kuniya Piti and Kantju Gorge
  • Hike the Valley of the Winds or Walpa Gorge through Kata Tjuta's domes
  • Take the early morning Rim Walk at Kings Canyon, weather and fitness permitting
  • Camp and stargaze under the Outback sky on Traditional Owners' land
Good to know
  • Camping trip with an early-morning walk and a fitness-dependent Rim Walk, so some outdoor comfort and mobility helps
  • You choose whether the tour ends in Alice Springs or Uluru/Yulara, subject to shuttle availability, so confirm this when booking
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want stunning desert landscapes and genuine Aboriginal cultural knowledge. Think twice if you need creature comforts, dietary variety, or a relaxed pace.

  • Guide quality makes or breaks this trip—Betty, Jordan (positive review), Michy, Ben, and Sanne all delivered genuine knowledge and care.
  • Food ranges from 'great' to 'worst I've ever had'—cheap supermarket wraps and burgers in plastic; one guide laughed about guests eating sugar.
  • Early 4am starts are non-negotiable for sunrise viewing and hiking; essential for the experience but tough on those sensitive to early mornings.
  • One guide's driving recklessness woke sleeping passengers; refused simple photo stops but extended café breaks unnecessarily, showing inconsistent priorities.
