About this trip
This is a coach journey up Western Australia's coast from Perth to Exmouth and back, built around the Ningaloo Reef and the wild landscapes in between. It's a long way north through country most visitors never see, with time in national parks, at Shark Bay, and along the reef itself.
Expect gorges, red cliffs, shell beaches, and reef-side stays rather than cities. There's a good mix of guided walks, wildlife spotting, and free time to swim or snorkel, with the group travelling together for the full week.
The route also takes in the Pinnacles and Kalbarri on the way north, and a run of coastal stops on the way back down to Perth.
What you'll do
- Walk out to Nature's Window and the Z-Bend above Murchison Gorge in Kalbarri National Park
- Look for wild dolphins at Monkey Mia in Shark Bay
- Walk Shell Beach and see the Stromatolites, among the oldest living fossils on Earth
- Snorkel the reef at Coral Bay, close enough to swim out from shore
- Take in views from the Vlamingh Head lighthouse over Ningaloo Reef and Cape Range National Park
- Snorkel Turquoise Bay in Cape Range National Park
- This is a coach tour covering long distances, with several comfort and seaside stops along the way
- Abseiling into the gorge at Kalbarri is optional and at your own expense
- Whale sharks, manta rays, and humpback whales are seasonal (roughly March to October) so sightings aren't guaranteed
Worth it if you want exceptional guides and unique WA coastal scenery. Think twice if long driving days or basic hostel beds bother you.
- Guides consistently outstanding: Ellie, Rachel, Geoff, Adam, Doug praised for knowledge, care, safety focus.
- Long driving days with minimal breaks; one reviewer found 30 minutes unsuitable between six-hour stretches.
- Hostel beds in Geraldton poor quality and sometimes unmade upon late arrival after long drives.
- No group chat or written communication provided; Deaf traveller found navigation difficult without written info.
