About this trip
A short trek into the foothills below the Annapurna range, starting and ending in Pokhara. Over three days you climb through forest to Poon Hill, known for its wide sunrise views across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs.
The walking is steady rather than technical, with a good mix of uphill and downhill sections each day, and much of the route passes through tall rhododendron forest that's especially striking when the flowers are out in spring.
It's a compact trip for anyone short on time who still wants a proper mountain view without committing to a longer Himalayan trek.
What you'll do
- Watch sunrise over a 360-degree mountain panorama from Poon Hill
- Walk through rhododendron forest on the trail up from Ghorepani
- See Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu and Machhapuchare (Fish Tail) from the trail
- Short drive from Pokhara to the trailhead to start and end the trek
- Involves daily ascents and descents rather than flat walking
- A short, easy-to-moderate trek suited to those with limited time
Worth it if you've got 3 days, middling fitness, and accept unpredictable weather. Think twice if you need guaranteed clear views or prefer going solo.
- Guides consistently excellent—Bikram, Raju, Ganesh named specifically for knowledge, pace-flexibility, local insight.
- Weather unreliable; only one reviewer got clear skies on summit day, most faced overcast conditions.
- 3 days is tight but doable for intermediate fitness; suits those wanting Himalayas without heavy commitment.
- Poon Hill sunrise itself genuinely stunning when visible; teahouse lodges include hot showers and fresh meals.
