About this trip
Mongolia moves from open steppe to mountains to the Gobi Desert, and this trip takes you through all three over 13 days. You sleep in nomadic ger camps, travel by horseback and vehicle, and get a real sense of a country still shaped by herding life and nomadic tradition.
This is a fully guided small-group trip covering a lot of ground, from Genghis Khan's historical legacy to the Buddhist and Animist beliefs that still coexist across the country. Some departures line up with the Naadam Festival in June or July, when wrestling, archery and horse racing take over.
What you'll do
- Stay in traditional nomadic ger camps
- Cross the Gobi Desert, including its singing dunes
- Ride horseback alongside camel and goat herders
- Visit sites linked to Genghis Khan's empire
- See where the first intact dinosaur eggs were discovered
- Optional Naadam Festival departures in June or July
- Covers steppe, mountain and desert, so expect long overland travel days
- Accommodation is a mix of ger camps, with private or shared room options
- Festival departures (Naadam) will be busier and should be booked with that timing in mind
