Petra & Wadi Rum Trek

Start & end in Amman 8 days Up to 16

About this trip

Eight days trekking through the desert landscapes of southern Jordan, from the sandstone mountains of Wadi Rum to the rock-cut city of Petra.

Wadi Rum's jebels rise straight out of the desert floor, and you cover this terrain properly — up from the valley bottoms to the mountain tops, guided throughout by local Bedouin. Nights are spent camping under the stars, the way the Bedouin do.

The trek ends with a walk in via the Back Trail, arriving at Petra on foot rather than through the main gate, a fitting way to reach one of the New Seven Wonders.

What you'll do

  • Trek across the jebels of Wadi Rum, from valley floor to mountain top
  • Camp under the stars with local Bedouin guides
  • Walk the Back Trail route into Petra
  • Explore the rock-cut city of Petra
Good to know
  • Moderate pace with genuine trekking days, not just sightseeing
  • Camping is basic and traditional, in line with local Bedouin style
  • Private rooms are provided where the itinerary isn't camping
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're genuinely keen on desert trekking and sleeping rough. Think twice if you need certainty about costs and prefer more time at Petra.

  • Wadi Rum's varied terrain and flexible pacing let you walk solo or with the group, with frequent tea breaks.
  • Wild camping under stars, excellent fresh food daily, and attentive local guides create a genuinely memorable experience.
  • Tipping framed as optional in notes but presented as expected; clarity needed on actual costs before booking.
  • One day at Petra feels rushed; soft sand walking tires despite being flat; bring appropriate footwear and wipes.
