About this trip
This is a gentle small-group walking trip through Tuscany, based in the small village of Pancole rather than moving hotel to hotel each night. You're hosted by the Sabatini family, which gives the week a homely, local feel rather than a packed sightseeing pace.
Days are built around walks through the vineyards and countryside around you, with a guided visit each to Siena and Florence to take in the Renaissance architecture and history. A tour leader is with you throughout.
Wine is very much part of the trip — expect to taste several Chianti varieties along the way, usually together as a group over a meal or two.
What you'll do
- Walk through vineyards and countryside around Pancole
- Stay with the Sabatini family and experience local hospitality
- Explore Siena with an expert local guide
- Explore Florence with an expert local guide
- Taste a range of local Chianti wines
- You're based in one village (Pancole) for the week rather than changing accommodation nightly
- Walking is moderate pace, guided throughout by a tour leader
- Good fit if you'd rather settle into one place and explore on foot than keep packing and moving
Worth it if you want immersive Tuscan walks, wine tastings, and strong group dynamics with excellent guides. Think twice if you need leisurely pacing or dislike early starts and long bus days.
- Tour leaders (Liz, Jordan, Roberta) consistently went beyond expectations, with local knowledge and genuine care for group cohesion.
- Scenery and medieval towns genuinely deliver—Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Greve—plus well-timed wine festivals and tastings feel authentic.
- Days are genuinely packed; early starts, long bus journeys, and activities crammed together exhausted even experienced hikers.
- October visits demand fleece and long trousers; September better for warmth. Local guides in major towns significantly enhance historical context.
