About this trip
Eight days cycling the Atlantic coast between Porto and Lisbon, two cities with plenty of character and very different personalities. You ride through a mix of coastline, small towns and countryside, with the sea rarely far away.
Expect stops in places like Aveiro, with its canals, and the medieval walled town of Obidos, plus the chance to eat well along the way — fresh fish and seafood feature heavily, alongside local wines.
This is a point-to-point ride rather than a loop, so each day moves you further south toward Lisbon, with a fully guided group and the option of a private or shared room.
What you'll do
- Cycle the Atlantic coastal route from Porto to Lisbon
- Explore the historic centres of Porto and Lisbon
- Visit the canal town of Aveiro
- Wander the medieval walled town of Obidos
- Eat fresh fish and seafood at local restaurants
- Taste Portuguese wines along the route
- Point-to-point route, so you're changing location most days rather than based in one place
- Can be combined with a follow-on Lisbon to Algarve cycling tour
Worth it if you value stunning Douro scenery, group camaraderie, and reliable logistics. Think twice if you're an experienced cyclist wanting challenging pace or substantial free time in towns.
- Douro valley ride stands out: stunning views, cherry orchards, local food experiences, and varied terrain throughout.
- Guide David and driver Dejan genuinely invested in safety, history, local knowledge, and group dynamics that felt like friends by day eight.
- Late afternoon arrivals meant limited explore and swim time despite brochure promising it; pace felt slow for experienced cyclists.
- Bring bike repair basics yourself; guide lacked pump and tools for flats. Check local construction and road closures before departure dates.
