About this trip
Eight days cycling from Florence to Pisa through the hills and olive groves of Tuscany, with a support vehicle following the group throughout.
You ride through traditional villages like Barga and Vinci, tackle the mountain scenery of Garfagnana, and finish among the crowds and towers of Pisa. Stops in Lucca add more of the region's provincial charm.
This is a guided cycling trip with a leader riding alongside you and a second guide driving the support van, so help is always close if you need a break.
What you'll do
- Cycle through the hillside village of Barga with mountain views
- Ride into Pisa to see the leaning tower up close
- Visit a bakery running since 1885 for biscotti and espresso
- Explore the mountainous Garfagnana area by bike
- Stop in Vinci and the walled town of Lucca
- Daily distances are short but the terrain is genuinely hilly, so a reasonable fitness level matters
- Riding is mostly on sealed roads with some gravel, no technical skills needed, though practising downhill riding beforehand helps
- E-bike hire is available if you want the route with less effort
Worth it if you get Walter or David as guide and accept variable bike quality. Think twice if you need cultural context or dislike being left behind.
- When guides Walter and David lead, they prioritise safety, engage the group, and deliver a well-organised, memorable experience.
- Some guides cycle far ahead, leave slower riders behind, and offer zero historical or cultural information about places visited.
- Bikes are often poorly fitted despite size information provided; quality ranges from good to low across different trips.
- Routes mix scenic countryside with occasional heavy traffic sections; weather can force itinerary changes mid-trip.
