About this trip
Fourteen days across Mongolia's open landscapes, from the Gobi Desert's dramatic emptiness to the forested Orkhan Valley and the ruins of Genghis Khan's ancient capital. This is a country of huge skies and few people, and the trip is built around meeting the ones who are there — nomadic families who still herd, ride and live much as their ancestors did.
Travel overland by coach between regions, staying with local herders along the way and picking up a few of their skills rather than just watching from a distance. Some departures line up with the Naadam Festival, Mongolia's biggest annual celebration of wrestling, archery and horse racing, if you want your visit to coincide with it.
