Mountains, Deserts & Coast of Oman

Start & end in Muscat 9 days Up to 18

About this trip

Nine days across Oman's mix of coast, mountains and desert, starting in Muscat and finishing with a night camped out among the dunes of Wahiba Sands.

You'll spend time in local markets and towns rather than just passing through — Nizwa souk, Sinaw market, and Sur, where dhow builders still work by hand using techniques passed down for generations.

It's a fully guided group trip with a moderate pace, built around getting a proper feel for Omani culture as much as the landscapes.

What you'll do

  • Explore Muscat's forts, Royal Palace and Corniche
  • Shop alongside locals at Nizwa souk
  • Browse handmade crafts at Sinaw market
  • Watch dhow builders at work in Sur
  • Cross Wahiba Sands by 4WD and camp overnight in the desert
  • Visit Nizwa's cattle market and fort
Good to know
  • Moderate pace with a mix of city visits and off-road desert travel
  • Includes one night sleeping out in the desert
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you love off-road desert driving, camping under stars, and raw local culture. Think twice if you need comfort or dislike early starts and long driving days.

  • Off-road 4x4 driving through desert and mountains is genuinely excellent, not just scenic but properly thrilling.
  • Desert camping in Wahiba Sands and visiting actual Bedouin villages gives real cultural immersion, not sanitised tourism.
  • Guides and drivers are consistently friendly and competent, genuinely enhancing the experience across multiple reviewers.
  • Desert camping means sleeping rough; one reviewer hit a sandstorm, so pack earplugs and expect discomfort.
