Walking in Kerala

Start & end in Kochi (Cochin) 11 days Up to 16

About this trip

This 11-day trip takes you walking through Kerala's varied landscape, from the mountains of the Western Ghats down to the famous Backwaters, covering forest, grassland, tea plantations and village paths on foot.

You'll trek in the Western Ghats and through Periyar National Park keeping an eye out for wildlife, climb Meesapulimala (the highest peak in South India), and spend time in villages around the Backwaters meeting locals along the way.

It's a walking-led trip through to its core, but there's a slower stretch too, floating on a traditional houseboat through the Backwaters to recover between hikes.

What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want varied Kerala landscapes with standout guiding. Think twice if you need clearly defined rest days—the itinerary pads the 11-day count.

  • Guide Shree consistently managed group logistics and unexpected emergencies without losing composure or momentum.
  • Tea plantation walks, Meesapulimala peak trek, and houseboat finale genuinely deliver on scenery and educational depth.
  • Day 1 orientation could shift to day 2; final day has no scheduled activity, making 11 days feel padded.
  • Small groups of 6 meant excellent food quality and thoughtful lunch locations, though weather luck played a role.
