Thirteen days through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, two countries that rarely make it onto most people's maps but reward the effort of getting there. You'll move between Silk Road cities and empty desert, with a guide handling the logistics that make independent travel through this region genuinely tricky.

Samarkand and Bukhara give you the historical weight of the trip — mosques, bazaars, centuries of trade routes crossing through. Turkmenistan flips that entirely, culminating at the Darvaza gas crater, a burning hole in the desert that locals call the Door to Hell.
