Sri Lanka Express

Negombo → Unawatuna 8 days Up to 15

About this trip

Eight days across Sri Lanka's cultural and natural highlights, moving from spice-growing hill country down to elephant country and out to the coast.

You'll walk through a working spice plantation, spend time on safari in Udawalawe National Park looking for wild elephants, and see how tea is grown and processed on a plantation visit.

The tour finishes in Unawatuna, a good jumping-off point if you want to bolt on some beach time afterwards.

What you'll do

  • Walk a working spice plantation and learn how the crops are grown
  • Safari in Udawalawe National Park in search of wild elephants
  • Visit a tea plantation and see the processing up close
  • Finish on the coast at Unawatuna
Good to know
  • Eight days moving through several regions, so expect a fairly brisk pace
  • Ends in Unawatuna, which suits extending your stay for extra beach time
  • Fully guided throughout, travelling as part of a group
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want a well-guided introduction with minimal planning. Think twice if you're independent or need quality accommodation and downtime.

  • Guides consistently praised as knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely attentive to individual needs and happiness.
  • Accommodation patchy: Kandy hotel isolated from town, first/last night hotels not clean, Hotel J in Negombo felt like basic hostel.
  • Limited free time and independence; group-dependent itinerary with long minibus days leave little room for solo exploration.
  • Clear on costs upfront including tipping expectations, but value for money debated; independent travellers may find better rates elsewhere.
