About this trip
Twenty days overland through southeastern Africa, travelling by truck with a small group of like-minded young travellers. The route takes in Victoria Falls, game-rich safari country, and the spice plantations of Zanzibar, moving between camps rather than settling in one place.
This is a camping-based trip, built around shared meals, long drives, and the kind of easy camaraderie that comes from being on the road together for three weeks. It's a practical way to cover a lot of ground and see the region's big draws without a hefty price tag.
What you'll do
- Stand by Victoria Falls and feel the spray
- Track wildlife on safari with a chance of spotting the Big Five
- Visit spice plantations in Zanzibar
- Travel overland by adventure truck through Zimbabwe and beyond
- Camp out most nights with a small group
- Camping-based trip — expect basic facilities rather than hotels
- Long overland drives link the destinations, so travel days are part of the experience
- Suited to travellers happy to rough it a bit in exchange for covering more of the region
Worth it if you can handle tent camping, long drives, and want authentic African experiences. Think twice if guide quality is crucial to your trip or hygiene standards are non-negotiable.
- Local Tanzanian guides in Zanzibar and Serengeti were genuinely friendly and knowledgeable tour leaders.
- Covers enormous ground in 20 days across Victoria Falls, Serengeti, and Zanzibar with well-structured itineraries.
- Guide quality varies wildly; one guide exhibited unprofessional behaviour, racist comments, and poor leadership skills.
- Two-day stretches in landos with no air conditioning, bumpy roads, and some campsites had unacceptable hygiene standards.
