About this trip
Fourteen days through the national parks of the American west, built around hiking rather than driving between viewpoints. You get proper time on the ground at each stop, with full days set aside for exploring rather than a quick photo and back on the bus.
The route runs from Zion through Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon's south rim, Death Valley, Sequoia and Yosemite, finishing in San Francisco. It's a lot of ground and a lot of contrast — red rock canyons, desert flats, granite peaks — so expect the scenery to change fast.
This is a moderate, partially guided trip aimed at people who want to be outdoors and moving most days, not lounging around.
What you'll do
- Full day hiking in Zion National Park
- Walk among the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon
- Hike into the Grand Canyon from the south rim
- Cross the desert landscape of Death Valley
- Trek through Sequoia National Park's high country
- Finish with hikes in Yosemite before reaching San Francisco
- Moderate pace with regular hiking — you'll want a reasonable fitness level
- Partially guided, so some sections you'll cover independently
- Private rooms throughout, but expect long travel days between parks
Worth it if you want efficient park-hopping with a standout guide and don't mind long travel days. Think twice if you need breathing room or comfort stops.
- Ben's leadership created zero conflict within a diverse group, handling every personality with genuine professionalism.
- You'll visit an impressive number of parks with ample hiking options and proper briefings the night before.
- Some days were very long with accommodation positioned far from the parks, minimising downtime.
- The itinerary skips notable stops like Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon, prioritising parks over scenic detours.
