Land of Northern Lights

Keflavik → Reykjavik 5 days Up to 40

About this trip

Five days across Southwest Iceland, split between two nights in Reykjavik and two nights in the south, giving you a solid mix of city time and open landscape.

Days are spent out exploring glaciers, lava fields, hot springs and waterfalls, with evenings free to watch for the Northern Lights when conditions allow.

It's a guided, easy-paced trip suited to a short getaway rather than a deep expedition, with an optional glacier hike if you want to add something more physical.

What you'll do

  • Soak in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon
  • Walk a black lava sand beach
  • Visit an Icelandic horse farm
  • Photograph traditional turf houses
  • Travel close to the Eyjafjallajökull volcano
  • Watch for the Northern Lights over two nights in South Iceland
Good to know
  • Aurora sightings depend on clear skies and are not guaranteed
  • Glacier hike is optional and booked separately
  • Easy pace with fully guided days, suited to families and first-time visitors to Iceland
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want genuine northern lights exposure with expert local guides. Think twice if you need lots of free time or smooth hotel logistics.

  • Guide quality is genuinely exceptional—Thor, Peter, Andri consistently praised for knowledge, warmth, and keeping groups calm through glitches.
  • Kletter Hotel struggles with crowding when multiple tour groups arrive simultaneously; narrow lobby, difficult front doors make luggage navigation painful.
  • Only three full days of touring despite five nights; first and last nights are hotel check-in only, limiting actual itinerary time.
  • Northern lights sightings and Iceland's natural attractions deliver; folk museum, varied landscapes, and lamb soup meals create memorable experiences.
