Antarctic Peninsula: An Explorer's Expedition (Ocean Nova)

Start & end in Ushuaia 11 days Up to 80

About this trip

Eleven days sailing to Antarctica aboard the Ocean Nova, an ice-strengthened ship built for these waters. You'll be out on deck and in Zodiacs daily, watching for penguins, seals, whales and seabirds against a backdrop of icebergs, glaciers and snow-capped peaks.

This is expedition travel with an experienced team leading daily landings on the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, teaching you about the geology, history and wildlife as you go. The itinerary bends to the weather, so no two voyages look quite the same.

Life on board is part of the experience too, with a library, lectures and a gym to fill in the hours when the ship is at sea or weather keeps you off the ice.

What you'll do

  • Daily Zodiac excursions to the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula
  • Watch for penguins, seals and whales in their natural habitat
  • Cruise past towering icebergs, glaciers and snow-capped peaks
  • Learn from an expert Expedition Team about the region's geology and history
  • Wet and dry landings on the Antarctic continent itself
  • Onboard lectures, library and gym for downtime at sea
Good to know
  • Seas can be rough and seasickness is common, though a doctor is on board and over-the-counter remedies usually help
  • A fair level of mobility is needed for landings on uneven, snowy terrain and for navigating stairs on parts of the ship
  • Waterproof boots are provided on loan along with an inner jacket to keep, but you'll need to pack layers for changeable cold and wet conditions
