About this trip
Five days deep into Western Australia's Kimberley, a region defined by rough roads, big skies and landscapes you won't see any other way. This is an inland 4WD adventure built around the Bungle Bungles, with plenty of lesser-known spots woven in along the way.
You'll cover real distance between sites, with long stretches of driving through sparse outback country, camping each night under the stars. It's a stripped-back trip — simple facilities, no creature comforts — built for people who want an honest taste of the outback rather than a polished version of it.
Expect early starts, uneven terrain and a genuine sense of remoteness. Camping gear is provided (stretcher beds, tents, chairs, linen) — you just bring your own sleeping bag.
What you'll do
- Explore the domed rock formations and chasms of the Bungle Bungles
- Hear Dreaming stories on a visit to Mimbi Caves
- Walk Tunnel Creek and learn the legend of Jandamarra
- Join the Darlgunya cultural walk
- Look for freshwater crocodiles at Windjana Gorge
- Camp under the stars each night
- Involves plenty of walking over varied, rocky terrain — a reasonable level of fitness and sure footing is needed
- Basic camping trip with simple facilities, though beds, tents and linen are provided — you bring your own sleeping bag
- Some long driving days through remote country, with very early mornings and tight extra space
Worth it if you're keen on remote Kimberley landscapes and can handle long driving days. Think twice if hygiene standards and guide consistency matter to you.
- When guides are on form, they're genuinely excellent: patient, safety-conscious, engaging even for older travellers.
- Food storage and hygiene inconsistent: dirty containers reported, perishables not kept cold, standards vary by guide.
- Some guides underprepared; one required passenger help fixing bus door, air con, battery terminals multiple times.
- Bungle Bungles lodge accommodation had working issues: broken tent lighting and no hot water for showers.
