Highlights of the Azores

Sao Miguel Island → Horta 7 days Up to 12

About this trip

Seven days across three Azorean islands, mixing volcanic landscapes with local food and drink. You start on Sao Miguel, move on to Pico by boat, then finish around Horta on Faial.

Expect greenhouse pineapple tastings, a volcanic stew lunch, and a distillery visit on Pico, alongside walks through volcanic terrain and old harbour towns.

It's a guided group trip with a moderate pace, built around a few included hikes and plenty of free time to explore each island further.

What you'll do

  • Taste fresh pineapple grown in greenhouses on Sao Miguel
  • Try a traditional stew cooked using volcanic heat
  • Sail to Pico Island and visit a local distillery
  • Hike near Horta and see the Capelinhos volcano
  • Wander Horta's streets taking in the local architecture
  • Have a G&T at Cafe Sport, a long-time sailors' haunt
Good to know
  • Includes an internal flight with a 20kg luggage limit, so pack light
  • You'll use public transport with limited storage, so be ready to lift and carry your own bag, including up stairs and over cobbles
  • A good level of fitness helps, as walking is the main way to explore, with some included hikes and more optional on free days
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want to see four islands with knowledgeable guides. Think twice if you dislike early starts and tight ferry schedules.

  • Guides Sasha and Isabelle were genuinely knowledgeable, informative, and excellent company throughout.
  • Inter-island travel is time-consuming; airport pickups happen 2.5 hours before flights, eating into your morning.
  • Seven days feels tight for four islands. Pack proper hiking shoes; landscapes demand them.
  • Visiting cheese factory on Sao Jorge arrival morning would improve the itinerary flow.
