About this trip
Five days along Iceland's south coast covering the Golden Circle properly, with time built in to actually get in the water and on the ice rather than just look at things from a bus window.
You soak in the geothermal waters of the Secret Lagoon, watch Strokkur Geysir do its thing, and strap on crampons for a guided walk across Solheimajokull Glacier, with waterfall spray in the mix too.
Guided throughout, so someone local is doing the driving, the planning, and the advice on where to eat without your budget taking a hit.
What you'll do
- Bathe in the geothermal waters of the Secret Lagoon
- Watch Strokkur Geysir erupt
- Hike Solheimajokull Glacier in crampons
- Feel the mist from Iceland's waterfalls up close
- Cover the full Golden Circle route
- Chance of Northern Lights, weather depending
- Iceland is a genuinely expensive country, especially for eating out — your leader can point you to better-value options
- Weather can be extreme and cold, particularly early and late season and after dark, so pack proper layers and footwear
- Itinerary may shift if weather turns, with your leader offering alternatives on the spot

What's included
- Guide: All Intrepid group trips in Iceland are accompanied by one of our group leaders, who will also be the driver. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects.
- Meals: 4 breakfasts, 1 lunch, 1 dinner
- Activities: Reykjanes Peninsula - Gunnuhver hot springs Reykjanes Peninsula - Bridge between Continents Reykjanes Peninsula - Strandarkirkja Aurora Spotting (weather dependent) Hafnarfjordur - Local artist community visit Golden Circle - Strokkur Geysir Fludir - Secret Lagoon Golden Circle - Gullfoss Waterfall South Coast - Kvernufoss Waterfall Hike South Coast - Seljalandsfoss Waterfall South Coast - Skogafoss Waterfall visit South Coast - Solheimajokull Glacier Hike Reykjavik - Leader-led walking tour Golden Circle - Thingvellir National Park
- Transport: On this trip we are travelling in our own private minibus as this allows us to reach some more off the beaten path destinations and gives us flexibility which would not be possible by public transport. Please note that there are some long travel days and some rough stretches on gravelly and windy roads. On some days we depart early in the morning to ensure we optimise our time. All our vehicles in Iceland have complimentary Wi-Fi. Private vehicle
- Accommodation: The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation. Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available. Hotel (4 nights)
- Flights: Flights to and from Iceland are not included. START & END OF TOUR This trip starts with a group meeting at 6 pm on day 1, and ends after the walking tour around Reykjavik at around 2 pm on the final day (subject to delays due to weather and road conditions). Please take this into consideration when booking your flights to and from Iceland. We are happy to book additional accommodation before or after the trip for you in Reykjavik, subject to availability.

- Insurance: No travel insurance included. Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips for those travelling internationally. We require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. If you are travelling within your home country or region please confirm before travel that you are entitled to access the public medical system easily should an accident occur. We strongly recommend all travellers have a policy that also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage or personal effects. For international trips, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance and the insurance company's 24-hour emergency contact number has been sighted by your leader. If you have credit card insurance your group leader will require details of the participating insurer/underwriter, the level of coverage, policy number, and emergency contact number rather than the bank's name and your credit card details. Please contact your bank for these details prior to arriving in-country. Travellers who reside within the European Union or Switzerland receive basic international health insurance, so travel insurance is not mandatory under European Union Law. However, as this does not cover situations such as emergency rescues, private health care, or repatriation to their home country, comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. European Union or Swiss travellers who decline travel insurance when travelling outside of their home region must sign a Travel Insurance Waiver Form at the Group Meeting.

- Guide quality made the trip: Josef was knowledgeable, professional, handled all driving himself.
- Group size of 10 in a van struck the right balance—intimate without feeling cramped.
- Secret Lagoon included, not Blue Lagoon—significantly smaller and less impressive by comparison.
- Hotels were clean and reliable; sightseeing itself lived up to expectations throughout.
