About this trip
Five days on Kangaroo Island, covering its beaches, bushland and wildlife with a small group and an Intrepid leader throughout.
You'll spend time with a working sheep farmer, watch little penguins come ashore at dusk, and hop between beaches and national parks that make up the island's best-known stretches of coast.
It's a full itinerary with early starts and late finishes, and some of your time is spent travelling together in a private vehicle, which can feel a bit tight on space but gives you a chance to get to know the group.
What you'll do
- Meet a sheep farmer and see how the island's farms work
- Watch little penguins on an evening walk at the Penneshaw Penguin Centre
- Beach hop between Emu Bay, Vivonne Bay and Stokes Bay
- Explore Flinders Chase National Park and the Remarkable Rock formations
- Spot kangaroos and towering eucalyptus in their natural habitat
- Fast-paced with little free time — designed to pack a lot into five days
- Starts early on day one and finishes late on the last day, so plan flights carefully
- Includes group travel in a private vehicle, which can feel cramped at times
Worth it if you book direct with Intrepid and want standout guides showing you post-bushfire recovery and dramatic coastal rock formations. Think twice if you need reliable pre-trip communication or have specific room requests.
- Guides consistently excellent: Soren, Jess, Kevin, Aaron, Georgie and Pablo all praised for knowledge, friendliness and handling unexpected situations calmly.
- Flinders Chase, Remarkable Rocks, penguin colonies and Seal Bay deliver genuine natural beauty; witnessing island's post-bushfire recovery adds meaningful context.
- Back office communication dire: hotels not contacted about arrival numbers, weeks to confirm single rooms, impossible to reach Tourradar after payment.
- Book directly with Intrepid rather than via Tourradar; small group sizes and included breakfasts are genuine bonuses for this price point.
