About this trip
Eight days across Belize and into Guatemala, covering Maya ruins, jungle, local food and a stretch of island time to finish. It moves from Belize City inland to the ruins and rainforest, then across the border to Tikal, before ending on Caye Caulker.
This is a country that gets skipped over more than it should, and the trip is built to show why — ancient sites, a proper cooking lesson with local women, and howler monkeys in the canopy, all before you slow right down on the coast.
What you'll do
- Explore the Maya remains at Lamanai Archaeological Site
- Learn traditional recipes in a cooking class with local women in San Ignacio
- Cross into Guatemala to see Tikal National Park and its howler monkeys
- Unwind on the island of Caye Caulker
- Expect real heat and humidity — carry plenty of water, especially on walking days
- Involves a border crossing into Guatemala as part of the itinerary
Worth it if you're keen on Mayan ruins and beaches with guides who genuinely know their stuff. Think twice if you dislike long driving days or expect mid-range hotel comfort.
- Guides consistently go above and beyond—Jonathan, Aquilino, Marco, Shaquille all earned specific praise for knowledge and engagement.
- Tikal and snorkeling standout experiences; ATM caves optional tour is strenuous but delivers on adventure despite deeper-than-normal water.
- Significant driving throughout itinerary; two of four hotels fall below three-star standard, described as run-down or basic budget style.
- Airport transfers charged at premium rates compared to local taxi prices; small group size allows solo seating if preferred.
