Essential Kenya & Tanzania Expedition

Nairobi → Kilimanjaro 15 days Up to 24

About this trip

Fifteen days across Kenya and Tanzania in a pop-top 4x4 Land Cruiser, moving from the highlands of central Kenya down through the Great Rift Valley and into the Serengeti ecosystem. You start in Nairobi and finish in Arusha, with a guide who stays with you the whole way.

The route takes in a wide spread of landscapes and parks — Amboseli under Kilimanjaro, the forests of Aberdare, the dry plains of Samburu, Ol Pejeta's conservancy, Lake Naivasha, then across the border to Masai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire or Lake Manyara. Each park has its own character, from elephant herds to tree-climbing lions to the wildebeest migration in season.

It's a long, thorough safari rather than a quick highlights reel, with time built in to properly explore each region and some contact with local communities along the way.

What you'll do

  • Watch large elephant herds against Kilimanjaro in Amboseli
  • Stay in an elevated tree lodge in Aberdare National Park, spotting antelope and buffalo below
  • Visit a chimpanzee sanctuary at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the only place in Kenya to see them in a natural setting
  • Take a boat safari on Lake Naivasha past hippos, with giraffe and zebra on the shore
  • Cross into Masai Mara and the Serengeti, with a chance to see the Great Migration between July and October
  • Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a concentrated day of wildlife viewing
Good to know
  • Two full weeks on the road, so expect a comprehensive itinerary with a lot of ground covered
  • Wildlife migration crossings are seasonal (roughly July to October) — timing your trip around this matters if that's a priority
  • An optional cycling safari at Hell's Gate National Park is available near Lake Naivasha
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value expert guides and seamless logistics. Think twice if you're budget-conscious—luxury packages and long days demand stamina.

  • Guides (Jordan, Elias, Norton, Mashine) are genuinely knowledgeable, proactive about wildlife spotting, and make the trip engaging with stories.
  • Airport transfers, pre-trip briefings, visa guidance, and post-trip follow-up are thorough; staff respond quickly to questions throughout.
  • Camping in tents near wildlife feels immersive; Big Five sightings and extensive animal encounters consistently delivered across reviews.
  • Luxury package upgrades (Neptune Ngorongoro) mentioned as making trip 'extra special'—adds cost beyond base safari price.
