About this trip
Five days covering Cambodia's two big draws: Phnom Penh and the temples of Angkor. It's a short, guided introduction rather than a deep dive, built around the country's history and its markets and food along the way.
You start in Phnom Penh with a full day taking in the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and National Museum, then move on to Siem Reap for the temples, including Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm.
Local food and markets are woven in throughout, giving you some texture beyond the monuments.
What you'll do
- Visit the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and National Museum in Phnom Penh
- Explore Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm in Siem Reap
- Try Cambodian dishes such as amok curry and fish head soup
- Browse local markets in both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap
- Short at five days, so it moves quickly between the two main cities
- Fully guided throughout, suited to those who want the history explained rather than exploring solo
Worth it if you value knowledgeable guides, efficient logistics, and cultural immersion. Think twice if you need modern, centrally located hotels or plan to join a larger group.
- Guides consistently praised for deep knowledge, flexibility with heat/rest breaks, and genuine passion for local history and culture.
- Hotel quality varies significantly; Phnom Penh properties dated or poor, Siem Reap location isolated from city center on 'hotel row'.
- Beds notably hard and uncomfortable across both cities; pillows and back support needed but only partially helped.
- Small group sizes mean limited peer interaction; one traveller wanted social connection with other tour members but had private tour instead.
