About this trip
Three weeks moving through Cambodia and Vietnam, covering temples, cities, rivers and coastline in one long overland route. You start in Siem Reap among the Angkor temples, work down through Phnom Penh, then cross into Vietnam through Hoi An, Hue, and up to Hanoi and Halong Bay.
It's a lot of ground, so expect a proper mix — ancient ruins one week, wartime history and capital cities the next, then a slower stretch on the water in Halong Bay. Guides lead you through the history at each stop rather than leaving you to work it out alone.
What you'll do
- Explore Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm temples around Siem Reap
- Visit Phnom Penh's Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and the Killing Fields
- Cruise the Thu Bon River and wander Hoi An's old town
- See Hue's Citadel, Forbidden City and the Tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh
- Overnight cruise through Halong Bay's limestone karsts
- Tour Hanoi, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Old Quarter
- Long trip covering two countries — expect frequent moves between cities and regions
- Mixes heavier history (Killing Fields) with sightseeing and a relaxed boat leg, so the tone shifts through the trip
