About this trip
Eight days across Cambodia that move from the temples of Angkor to the floating villages of Tonle Sap, the history of Phnom Penh, and a jungle camp in the Cardamom Mountains. It's a mix of ancient stone, recent history, and time outdoors, rather than one single focus.
You start in Siem Reap with the big-name temples and some quieter ones, then head onto the water to see how communities live on Tonle Sap Lake. From there it's on to Phnom Penh, where the Khmer Rouge era and the city's present-day energy sit side by side.
The trip ends with a change of pace: a jungle trek in the Cardamom Mountains alongside Wildlife Alliance Rangers, looking for wildlife rather than ruins.
What you'll do
- Watch sunrise or sunset over Angkor Wat
- Explore the carvings at Preah Khan and Banteay Srei
- Visit a floating village community on Tonle Sap Lake
- Learn Cambodia's modern history at the Royal Palace, National Museum and Killing Fields in Phnom Penh
- Hike through the Cardamom Mountains with Wildlife Alliance Rangers
- Try Cambodian dishes such as Amok and Khmer curry
- Covers heavy history (the Killing Fields) alongside temple sightseeing and jungle trekking, so the tone shifts a fair bit day to day
- Involves a half-day forest hike, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
