About this trip
Eight days moving through Cambodia's ancient temples, rural heartland and modern capital, from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by road.
You start with the temples of Angkor and the surrounding countryside, then head to Battambang for a slower look at local life, before finishing in Phnom Penh with its layered, sometimes difficult history.
It's a straightforward overland route rather than a beach trip, mixing big-name sights with quieter rural stops.
What you'll do
- Explore the ancient temples of Angkor
- Visit the carved stonework of Banteay Srei
- Take a boat ride on Tonle Sap Lake
- Ride the Bamboo Train in Battambang
- Climb Phnom Banan for views over the countryside
- Learn about Phnom Penh's past and present
- You change base three times — Siem Reap, Battambang, Phnom Penh — with bus travel between each
- Covers both ancient temple history and Cambodia's more recent, harder history in Phnom Penh
Worth it if you value knowledgeable local guides and seamless logistics. Think twice if hotel quality consistency matters to you, or if you need a group dynamic.
- Local guides across all three cities were exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely shaped the experience.
- Transfers, pick-ups, and drop-offs ran like clockwork with responsive WhatsApp support from tour coordinators.
- Hotel quality is inconsistent; some guests received poor 3-star properties despite paying for 4-star upgrades, with musty rooms and cold breakfast.
- This is a private group tour, not a communal one; you travel only with those you book with, which surprised some expecting larger group dynamics.
