About this trip
Nine days across Peru, starting in Lima and finishing with a drop-off at Puno airport, taking in the country's big three: colonial cities, Inca history, and the high Andes.
You'll move through the Sacred Valley before reaching Machu Picchu itself, then head on to Lake Titicaca, where its islands carry their own layers of history. Along the way there's time to meet Andean communities and see llamas and alpacas up close.
It's a moderate-paced, partially guided trip, so you get structure where it counts (the sites that need it) with some room to explore on your own.
What you'll do
- Explore colonial Lima
- Travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas
- Tour the citadel and mountain of Machu Picchu
- Visit the islands of Lake Titicaca
- Meet Andean communities and their camelids
- Partially guided — some days have a guide, others are more independent
- Moderate pace, with real altitude involved around Cusco and Titicaca
- Trip starts in Lima and ends with a drop-off at Puno airport, not a full loop
Worth it if you're fit enough for altitude and long travel days with early starts. Think twice if you need leisurely pacing or struggle with heights.
- Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca deliver as advertised; guides like Miguel and Edgard genuinely enhance the experience.
- Altitude hits hard even on Diamox; arriving in Cusco same day as tours causes real discomfort. Request extra acclimatisation time.
- Long days are genuinely long: Cusco-to-Puno is nine hours by coach; Machu Picchu ruins have no railings and vertigo-inducing drops.
- Second day at Machu Picchu has no guide included; book your own or save money. Domestic Peru flights are unreliable; expect delays.
