Wonderful Peruvian South

Lima → Cusco 13 days Up to 20

About this trip

Thirteen days across Peru, from the coast to the Andes, taking in the country's main historical and natural highlights along the way.

You move through Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco, crossing mountain ranges and high plateaux, with time to take in local food and the character of traditional villages en route.

The trip builds to Machu Picchu, the Inca citadel that closes out the journey.

What you'll do

  • Explore Lima's historical centre
  • Cross the desert landscapes around Ica
  • Take in the mountain scenery of Arequipa
  • Visit Lake Titicaca and the Puno region
  • Wander through Cusco's old town
  • Visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu
Good to know
  • Partially guided, so some sections you'll cover independently
  • Moderate pace with high-altitude travel between Puno and Cusco
  • Runs over Christmas and New Year, suited to families and groups
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value excellent local guides and iconic sites. Think twice if you need reliable hotel standards, seamless logistics, or guaranteed small-group socialising.

  • Local guides consistently exceptional: culturally knowledgeable, helpful problem-solvers, passionate about their regions.
  • Hotel quality wildly inconsistent despite 4+ star payment: mouldy bathrooms, rooms too small for luggage, mosquito-infested.
  • Long desert bus rides with unnecessarily early starts, then brief visits; itinerary feels padded rather than purposeful.
  • No guaranteed group cohesion: you're picked up individually daily, so meeting other travellers is random and fleeting.
