About this trip
Thirteen days across Peru and Bolivia, taking in the big names on a budget-friendly basis. You start in Lima and Cusco, head through the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu, then cross into Bolivia via Lake Titicaca to finish among the Uyuni salt flats and lagoons.
It's a full itinerary with a lot of ground covered — Inca ruins, high-altitude lakes, cloud forest, and one of the world's most photographed salt flats — so expect plenty of travel days between highlights.
This is the budget version: 2-3 star hotels throughout, with the option to pay more for upgraded rooms where you want extra comfort, particularly once you're in Bolivia.
What you'll do
- Visit Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World
- Choose between the Rainbow Mountain hike, the Humantay Lake hike, or a tour of Moray and the Maras salt mines
- Cross Lake Titicaca to Copacabana and Sun Island
- Explore the Salar de Uyuni and its coloured lagoons
- Wander the Sacred Valley and learn about Inca and Andean culture in Cusco
- Hotels are 2-3 star by default; upgrades to 4-5 star are available at extra cost
- Tourist infrastructure in Bolivia is generally lower quality than in Peru — private tours are an option if you want more control over pace and comfort
- Uyuni lodging is basic given the remote setting, with limited hot water, heating, and internet
Worth it if you want a meticulously organized whirlwind covering both countries with standout guides. Think twice if you need comfort, heating, or solo time to explore Lima properly.
- Guides like Sandro in Bolivia genuinely elevate the trip, handling logistics and cultural depth beyond standard tour work.
- Itinerary deliberately sequences altitude acclimatization, meaning you see everything without the usual strain of poor planning.
- Budget accommodations mean no heating or hot water in many hotels; Lima feels rushed and adds logistical hassle.
- Single supplement costs £600 extra; flights out of La Paz can be scarce, so check Chile exit options early.
