About this trip
A short, no-frills safari run from Lusaka down to the southern Ngoma area of Kafue National Park, built for people who haven't got a fortnight to spare. Three days, two nights, with a guide and driver who stay with you the whole way.
The drive itself is part of the trip — reckon on 7-8 hours each way through rural Zambia, past small roadside towns, farms and forest, with a stop to see the Itezhi Tezhi dam wall. Once you're at Kafue you get time in one of Zambia's better-known wilderness areas, plus a village excursion to Iyanda, including a visit to the local primary school.
It runs as a set-departure group tour that goes ahead regardless of numbers, though private and solo arrangements can be set up if you'd rather not join a group.
What you'll do
- Road journey from Lusaka to Kafue National Park's southern Ngoma region
- Stop at the Itezhi Tezhi wall dam
- Time in Kafue National Park's wilderness for wildlife and birdlife
- Cultural village excursion in Iyanda, including the local primary school
- Guide and driver with you throughout
- Long travel days — the Lusaka to Itezhi Tezhi drive runs 7-8 hours each way
- Runs as a group tour by default, but private or solo arrangements can be requested
- Optional add-ons available at extra cost: a Lusaka city tour before or after, or an end-of-tour transfer to Livingstone instead of back to Lusaka
Worth it if you want authentic bush experience with excellent guides and don't mind basic accommodation. Think twice if you expect luxury amenities or confirmed itineraries.
- Guides like Fines, Dominic and Mark are genuinely knowledgeable about wildlife, culture and history, going well beyond standard commentary.
- Accommodation significantly undersells itself; expect basic tents and no wifi, bar, lounge or electricity despite brochure promises.
- Guide may disappear for extended periods without notice; itinerary flexibility means advertised activities can drop off without warning.
- Long driving days from Lusaka and cramped vehicle conditions; best as add-on to longer Zambia trip rather than standalone.
