About this trip
This is a full loop of Iceland's ring road over 10 days, done at the wheel of your own hire car and on your own schedule. Winter brings snow-dusted landscapes, shorter daylight and a quieter version of the country's best-known sights.
You'll cover the Golden Circle, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the South Coast, the Troll Peninsula, the Diamond Circle and the Eastfjords, with route notes and overnight stops mapped out for you in advance.
It's self-guided and private, so it's just you (and whoever you're travelling with), the car, and the itinerary — no group, no guide standing over your shoulder.
What you'll do
- Drive the Golden Circle's geysers and waterfalls
- Explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula's coastline
- Follow the South Coast past black sand beaches
- See icebergs drift at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
- Loop the Troll Peninsula and Diamond Circle in the north
- Finish along the Eastfjords
- Winter driving in Iceland means snow, ice and shorter daylight hours, so this suits confident drivers
- Self-guided and private, so pace and stops are up to you
- Rated easy, and the family-friendly style suggests it's manageable without specialist skills
