About this trip
A seven-day self-drive through Iceland's south and west, taking in the country's best-known landscapes at your own pace. You'll cover the Golden Circle, the South Coast, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and Reykjavik, driving between them yourself with a self-guided itinerary to follow.
This is winter travel, so days are shorter and there's a real chance of spotting the northern lights along the way. It suits families or small private groups who want to see Iceland's highlights without being tied to a group tour schedule.
What you'll do
- Drive the Golden Circle route
- Explore waterfalls and black-sand beaches along the South Coast
- Visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
- Wind through the Snæfellsnes Peninsula
- Spend time exploring Reykjavik
- Watch for the northern lights on clear nights
- Self-drive in winter conditions, so comfort driving on Icelandic roads in snow and ice is worth considering
- Self-guided pace — you follow the itinerary at your own speed rather than with a group leader
- Itinerary can be tailored if you want to adjust the route or focus
Worth it if you want flexibility to explore Iceland's raw winter landscapes at your own pace. Think twice if you need detailed logistics (drive times, closing hours) and want to avoid booking attraction add-ons at inflated rates.
- Self-drive format lets you detour freely while hitting major sites; TourRadar staff respond quickly to real-time requests and changes.
- Itinerary lacks specifics on driving times and attraction closing hours, leading travellers to arrive places shut or miss dinner service.
- Booking add-ons like Blue Lagoon through TourRadar costs significantly more than booking directly with attractions yourself.
- Hotel coffee is weak across the board; single beds are standard. Breakfasts plentiful. Seven days feels rushed for the amount to see.
