About this trip
This trek takes you right around the Annapurna massif, starting in sub-tropical forest and rhododendron woodland before climbing into arid, high-altitude terrain. It's a big landscape shift over 12 days, and the walking reflects that, from village trails to the long, tough haul up to Thorong La.
Along the way you pass through mountain villages and meet ethnic communities including Tamang, Gurung and Magar, mostly Buddhist, whose way of life is shaped by this remote terrain. Temples, monasteries and gompas punctuate the route alongside the scenery.
The trip is built around proper acclimatization, with rest days worked into the itinerary before the pass crossing. It's graded moderate, so you don't need mountaineering experience, but you do need a solid level of fitness for consecutive long walking days.
What you'll do
- Cross Thorong La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes in the world
- Walk through the remote, desert-like Manang valley
- Visit Muktinath, with its Vishnu temple, gompa and eternal flame
- Descend through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, among the deepest in the world
- See the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri and Tilicho Peak along the trail
- Finish in Pokhara after the trek
- Moderate grading, but expect long days on varied terrain and a demanding climb to the pass
- Itinerary includes dedicated acclimatization days ahead of the high-altitude crossing
Worth it if you want a well-organised trek with genuinely invested guides and porters who go beyond the brief. Think twice if you need luxury accommodation or prefer solo trekking without social evenings.
- Guides consistently praised for knowledge, professionalism, and genuine care for trekker wellbeing throughout.
- Porters actively engage beyond carrying bags—playing cards, serving tea, building real rapport with trekkers.
- Village accommodation is basic in places; company does best possible but manage expectations accordingly.
- Company handles logistics smoothly, responds quickly to queries pre-trek, and adapts plans to last-minute requests.
