Annapurna Base Camp with Poonhill Trek

Twelve days on foot through the Annapurna region, starting from lakeside Pokhara and working up through rhododendron and bamboo forest to the amphitheatre of peaks around Annapurna Base Camp. The route mixes big mountain views with everyday village life in Gurung and Magar communities along the way.

Expect a proper physical challenge, including the long stone staircase up to Ulleri, before you reach 4,130 metres at ABC surrounded by the Annapurna range and Machapuchchre. Coming down, there's a stop at the hot springs in Jhinu to soak tired legs before heading back to Pokhara.

What you'll do

• Trek through rhododendron and bamboo forest between Tikkhedunga and Ghorepani
• Take in sunrise views from Poonhill over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges
• Climb the 3,300 stone steps to Ulleri
• Reach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres, ringed by Hiunchuli, Machapuchchre and the Annapurna peaks
• Pass through Gurung and Magar villages and see their way of life
• Soak in the natural hot springs at Jhinu on the way back down
