About this trip
This is a compact route into the Annapurna Sanctuary, reaching one of the highest base camps in the world in just seven days. It suits travellers who want to stand at the foot of the giant Himalayan peaks but don't have weeks to spare.
You start from Pokhara, with its views over Phewa Lake, then head up through Gurung villages where Buddhist culture and mountain life carry on much as they have for generations. The trail climbs the Modi River gorge through rhododendron and bamboo forest before opening out into the Sanctuary itself, ringed by peaks including the towering East Face of Annapurna I.
Nights are spent in lodges along the way, with the high point being a stay at Annapurna Base Camp itself, surrounded by snow and rock on all sides before you turn back downhill towards warmer, greener country.
What you'll do
- Walk through Gurung villages and see Buddhist mountain culture firsthand
- Follow the Modi River gorge through rhododendron and bamboo forest
- Reach Annapurna Base Camp inside the Annapurna Sanctuary
- Take in views of Annapurna I's East Face and the surrounding peaks
- Begin and end the trek in Pokhara by Phewa Lake
- A short, fast-paced trek — you cover a lot of altitude and distance in 7 days
- Moderate difficulty, with overnight stops in teahouse-style lodges
- Fully guided throughout, in a small group
Worth it if you want genuine mountain scenery and reliable logistics with caring guides. Think twice if you need fluent English guides or expect luxury standards.
- Guides like Anup and Sagar go above and beyond with practical care—checking comfort, safety, pacing throughout.
- Guide's English can be very limited; expect to research terrain details yourself or ask other trekkers.
- Itinerary rushes final day; hot springs visit promised but skipped. Meals included create pressure to eat at altitude.
- Tea houses are decent with good food. Return coach is standard, not luxury; advertised freebies sometimes don't materialise.
