About this trip
Langtang Valley sits north of Kathmandu, closer to the city than Everest or Annapurna, but the trail feels remote from the start. You follow the Langtang river up through oak and rhododendron forest, sleeping in mountain villages and getting a real look at local life along the way.
The high point, in both senses, is Kyanjin Gompa, an old Buddhist monastery set among glaciers and grazing yaks. From there you climb to Tserko Ri at 4,984m for a wide view of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Gang Chenpo and Ganesh Himal.
It is a there-and-back route rather than a loop, out via Syabru Besi and back the same way, which keeps the logistics simple and the focus on the walking itself.
