Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek

This is a seven-day trek into the heart of the Annapurna range, climbing from lowland villages up to Annapurna Base Camp at over 4000 metres, with the massif rising above you the whole way.

You follow the Modi Khola river through the gorge between Hiunchuli and Machhapuchare, passing through a landscape that was once considered a real expedition route into unmapped wilderness. The walking involves steady ascents and descents rather than technical difficulty, with alternative paths converging at Chhomrong.

Alongside the mountain views, you get a genuine look at Nepalese village life along the trail, making this as much a cultural walk as a high-altitude one.

What you'll do

• Drive along the Prithivi Highway to Nayapul to start the trek
• Walk up through the gorge between Hiunchuli and Machhapuchare
• Follow the Modi Khola river valley
• Reach Annapurna Base Camp at over 4000 metres
• Take in close-up views of the Annapurna Himalaya, including peaks over 7000 metres
• Pass through villages meeting at Chhomrong on the way to the sanctuary
