Langtang Valley trek

The Langtang Valley sits north of Kathmandu, close enough to Tibet that the culture, language and dress of the villages you pass through lean more Tibetan than Nepali. This ten-day trek takes you through one of the closer Himalayan valleys to the capital, without the crowds of the Everest or Annapurna routes.

You walk through dense oak and pine forest that gives way to rhododendron higher up, with the valley itself ringed by peaks and known for its alpine flora. It's a moderate trek, partially guided, so there's room to move at a human pace rather than a forced march.

The people you meet along the way are mostly Tamang, settled here long before the Sherpas of the Everest region, with their own language and customs distinct from what you'd find further east.
