About this trip
Fifteen days through Vietnam, moving from the markets of Hanoi to the limestone bays of Bai Tu Long and up into the hills of Sapa. The first twelve days are spent with a small group covering the country's cultural highlights, before the trip continues north for a slower, more rural stretch.
In Sapa you're among terraced hillsides and hill tribe communities who've kept their own traditions going for generations. It's a shift in pace from the cities and coast, and a chance to see a side of Vietnam that doesn't usually make it onto shorter itineraries.
This is a fully guided group trip with private rooms throughout, built around culture and everyday life rather than ticking off sights.
What you'll do
- Wander the markets of Hanoi
- Cruise the bays of Bai Tu Long
- Trek the terraced hillsides around Sapa
- Visit hill tribe communities and learn their traditions
- Eat dishes passed down through generations in rural households
- Moderate pace with a mix of city time and more remote travel in Sapa
- Private rooms throughout, so no dorm-sharing
- Group-based with a guide for the full 15 days
Worth it if you want immersive Vietnamese culture, food experiences, and reliable logistics. Think twice if you prefer minimal travel time between destinations.
- Street food tours, cooking classes, and homestays genuinely deliver on cultural immersion and exceed expectations.
- Multiple overnight buses and trains eat significant time; several travellers wished for more city hours, fewer travel days.
- Local guides (especially Sanh) bring humour, knowledge, and enthusiasm that transform the experience.
- Hanoi needs at least one extra day to properly see landmarks; current itinerary allocates insufficient time there.
