About this trip
Ghorepani Poonhill is a short trek in the Annapurna region built around one big payoff: sunrise from Poonhill, with Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Himchuli and Machhapuchre lined up in front of you.
Over five days you walk through hill villages home to Gurung and Magar communities, climbing steadily through forest and terraced farmland rather than tackling high-altitude passes.
It's a manageable introduction to trekking in Nepal, guided throughout, with the scenery doing most of the talking.
What you'll do
- Watch sunrise over the Annapurna range from Poonhill viewpoint
- Spot Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Himchuli and Machhapuchre from the same ridge
- Walk through Gurung and Magar villages and learn about local life
- Trek through forest and terraced hillside on well-established trails
- Pitched as a short, easy trek — suited to first-time trekkers as well as experienced ones
- Fully guided throughout
- Physical days on foot with an early start for the sunrise viewpoint
Worth it if you want a well-paced, culturally immersive trek with a genuinely knowledgeable guide. Think twice if you need guaranteed western-standard facilities.
- Guides like Bishnu and Sudip integrate you with locals, share deep cultural knowledge, pace the trek to your fitness level.
- Poon Hill sunrise and rhododendron forests deliver genuinely stunning moments; steep sections like Ulleri are challenging but manageable.
- Toilet facilities are basic and inconsistent; rooms depend entirely on guide connections, not guaranteed standards.
- Tea houses and villages dot the route frequently; food ranges from traditional Nepali to western options if needed.
