Chisapani Nagarkot Trek

Start & end in Kathmandu 3 days Up to 20

About this trip

A short trek in the hills above Kathmandu, covering forest, viewpoints and old temple in just three days. It suits you if time is tight but you still want a proper taste of Nepal's mountains and culture.

You start with a drive to Sundarijal, then walk into Shivapuri National Park, past the watershed that supplies much of Kathmandu's water, before reaching Chisapani for the night. From there the trail continues through Tamang and Newari villages to Nagarkot, known for its Himalayan views.

The last day brings you down to Changu Narayan, one of Nepal's oldest temples, closing out a route that mixes forest, farmland and mountain panoramas.

What you'll do

  • Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal to start the trek
  • Walk through Shivapuri National Park's forest, watching for wildlife and birds
  • Overnight in Chisapani with an early sunrise view
  • Trek village trails to Nagarkot for Himalayan views including Everest, Annapurna and Manaslu
  • Pass through Tamang and Newari settlements along the route
  • Descend to Changu Narayan, one of Nepal's oldest temples
Good to know
  • A compact three-day trek, good if you're short on time
  • Trail includes a fairly rugged stretch between Chisapani and Nagarkot
  • Best mountain views come at sunrise, so early starts are part of the trip
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're fit, expect basic lodges, and get a strong guide like Asmita or Madan. Think twice if you need comfort or fluent English interpretation.

  • Day one climbs over 1,000m, steeper than pre-trek materials suggest; fitness matters.
  • First night accommodation is very basic and gets genuinely cold; bring proper layers.
  • Sunrise over the Himalayas from Nagarkot and village immersion genuinely memorable and worth the slog.
  • Guide quality varies widely; Asmita, Madan, and Ghamar deliver culture and safety; others speak limited English.
