About this trip
Sixteen days on the classic trail to Everest Base Camp, walking the same route as the early Himalayan expeditions. You'll sleep in traditional teahouses along the way and pass through Sherpa villages that still feel remote and unhurried.
This is a proper physical challenge rather than a stroll, but the itinerary builds in acclimatisation time and your guides are local, English-speaking mountain professionals who know the route and the altitude risks well.
The pace is deliberately careful — early starts to beat the crowds on the trail and get into teahouses ahead of the rush, with the sight of Everest itself as the payoff.
What you'll do
- Trek the classic route to Everest Base Camp
- Overnight in traditional teahouses en route
- Visit Sherpa villages along the Khumbu valley
- Built-in acclimatisation day to adjust to altitude
- See Everest up close from Base Camp
- A genuinely challenging high-altitude trek, not a casual walk
- Staff-to-traveller ratio of 1:4, with guides trained in first aid and altitude sickness recognition
- Lukla flights can be delayed by weather, so the itinerary has contingency days built in
Worth it if you're fit, flexible with weather delays, and value expert local guides. Think twice if admin responsiveness and creature comforts matter more than the achievement.
- Sherpa and guide teams are genuinely exceptional—attentive to altitude sickness, pacing, group welfare, knowledgeable and playful.
- Exodus admin fails badly during weather disruptions; no clear Plan B when flights are cancelled, burdening guides unnecessarily.
- Teahouse hygiene variable and cold at night—bring minus-10 sleeping bag, water purification tablets, small USD bills for tips.
- Clear skies reward you spectacularly; first Everest glimpse and Base Camp arrival are genuinely life-changing, especially with two-night stay.
